imagine working for a major airline during the height of the pandemic. wild, right? i know.

in 2020, i worked at delta air lines—which i affectionately call the hot girl airline—on the brand’s social media team as a sr. social media analyst, community management. basically, it’s a fancy way of saying i wrote copy for the @delta social media accounts.

my role was specifically to build brand love and relationships with customers and community. the biggest challenge was learning delta’s voice and merging that with my own style of writing all while being sensitive to the fact that we were in “uncertain times”. my approach was to make conversations with @delta feel fun, memorable, and human so that fans of the brand felt seen, heard, and valued.

in august 2020, a Black passenger was harassed on her flight by a white passenger for wearing a “Black lives matter” facemask. she later shared a post on facebook, which went viral, showing gratitude to delta for rectifying the situation and coming to her defense. to further show our support, i wrote a comment that came straight from the heart—"when we say Black lives matter, we mean it. you matter to us, demetria."
