WTf iS An EM daSh?
it’s a punctuation mark, of course,
but it’s also my agency.
the name of the em dash co was inspired by my favorite punctuation mark—the em dash. never fully understanding how to use commas correctly (and not really willing to learn), i began using it as a stylistic choice in my written work throughout my career.
grammatically, the em dash is known to be a very versatile punctuation. it’s not as formal and can replace other punctuations like commas, parentheses, colons, and semicolons, making it feel more approachable. it draws attention to the reader’s eye and leaves them longing for what’s next in the story—and what’s next in the story is open for imagination. 💡
